Where do we go?
There are three routes I take most often, all starting near Žabljak: from the Black Lake up towards Savin Kuk, from the Black Lake to the quiet Zminje Lake, and to Katun Lokvice, a group of traditional shepherd huts in the snow.
Each one takes 2 to 4 hours. I choose the route every morning, depending on the weather and how safe the snow is that day.

How the day goes
We meet, put on the snowshoes and I give you a short lesson: how to walk, how to go uphill and how to come down. It takes a few minutes and then we set off.
On the way we stop for tea, photos and a rest, and to simply enjoy the views. The pace is relaxed, it is a walk, not a race.
When is the snow best?
Honestly, you never know. It depends on the winter: some years December is perfect, other years the best snow comes in February.
The calendar on the tour page shows the weather forecast for the next days, so you can see what to expect before you book.
Safety and bad weather
I follow the forecast every day. When a storm or a weather warning is announced, we do not go. In that case you can move to the next available day or get your deposit back.
What to wear
The most common mistake is a cotton tracksuit. Cotton soaks up snow and sweat, stays wet and makes you cold. People forget how wet a day in the snow can be.
Wear layers instead: a thermal base layer, a warm middle layer and a waterproof jacket and trousers. Add waterproof winter boots, a hat, gloves and sunglasses, and bring a thermos with tea and a small snack.
