What is via ferrata?

Via ferrata, Italian for “iron path”, is the bridge between hiking and climbing. A steel cable runs along the whole route and you are clipped to it the entire time with a double lanyard, so you can move over steep rock safely even if you have never climbed before.

On Durmitor the route climbs steep rock above Sedlo Pass towards the summit. As you gain height, the view opens to the highest peaks of the massif, Bobotov Kuk, Šljeme and Stožina, and the wide plateau below.

The route is 2.4 km long with 400 m of steel cable and grade B/C, which means real rock and real exposure, but with good holds and iron rungs where you need them. The whole adventure takes 2–4 hours, depending on the size of the group and everyone's pace.
