Durmitor in winter
When snow covers Durmitor, the national park turns quiet and white. Snowshoes spread your weight over the snow, so instead of sinking to your knees you walk on top of it, through forests and across plateaus that are hard to reach any other way in winter.
There is no single fixed route. Every morning I choose the best one for the weather and snow safety. Depending on the day we go from the Black Lake towards Savin Kuk, to the peaceful Zminje Lake, or up to the traditional shepherd huts of Katun Lokvice.
The pace is relaxed, with stops for photos, tea and snow fights. It suits families with older children, couples and anyone who wants to see Durmitor the way only a few visitors do.
